About

Kimberly Edgar is an award-winning artist living on Tr'ondek Hwech'in land in so-called Dawson City, Yukon, Canada. Kim’s work reflects on experiences of both the medical system and the ennui that comes with being sick with no end, as well as the sacred nature of thresholds, and how those who cross or occupy these liminal spaces (such as trans and disabled people) hold a special kind of knowledge.

Kim’s work is varied, ranging from comics to music, large-scale painting to natural textiles, and even running a small comics press. Kim is the recipient of grants from Cue (2018), Canada Council (2019, 2021, 2023), On Yukon Time (2020), Culture Quest (2020, 2021), and the Yukon Advanced Artist Award (2020, 2022). Kim also holds a Broken Pencil Zine Award for Best Comic (2019), and has been twice nominated for the Doug Wright Awards for both their personal comic work and for the work they publish with their small press, Hecate Press. Kim has an experimental music project called Bird Feet, which has led them to playing musical festivals such as Wonderhorse (2021, Whitehorse, Yukon) and Sappyfest (2022, Sackville, New Brunswick). They also have pieces in the Yukon Permanent Art Collection and the Ottawa Direct Purchase Program, as well as two public art commissions from the Yukon Government (2021). Edgar began studying natural textiles and basketry with willow-expert Jackie Olson in the fall of 2022, and is slowly starting a graphic novel. When not pursuing a plethora of creative projects, Kim rests with their partner and cat in their tiny cabin outside of dawson.
